National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Sept 27

National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

September 27 is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a time to reflect on the heavy toll of HIV among gay and bisexual men and acknowledge the contributions they have made in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Since the first cases of AIDS were reported in five gay men in 1981, gay and bisexual men across the United States have been at the center of the U.S. epidemic. Gay and bisexual men bear the greatest burden of this disease, accounting for almost two-thirds of all new infections in 2010. Yet, they also have been at the forefront of fighting this disease. Many have helped shape the research agenda and worked with organizations that provide HIV services.

Stop the blame and take ownership of the Why.

The Sex Culture issue of the Gay and Lesbian Review for September has an article by Max Fox (which is a version peviously posted elsewhere).

So after reading the article; Grinders Lonely Crowd; I have to say there’s definitely some interesting perceptions that Fox shares. It’s my favorite type of article because it gives you lots to discuss and dialogue with folks, agree or disagree.

What is more fascinating to me was his use words such as “loose” to describe gay men who use pleasure seeking activities and also shows its age by not including some of the ways that Grindr had provided health access or its Grindr For Equality component.
